Q: I wish to buy one of your products used, from another person. What do I have to consider when making such a purchase?

Posted by admin in FAQ

A: There are 3 things to consider when purchasing one of our products used:

1) make sure there is a serial number included with the product. If it was registered on its previous owner make sure you obtain written proof of purchase from the previous owner so we can change the registration entry accordingly.

2) if the product comes in a box with the old, red Steinberg logo on it or is acccompanied by a key diskette or a dongle it is likely that the product is over 4 years old. You cannot register or update this old a product for free. In most cases, an update is available upon request - typically updating costs between 50-100 Euro.

3) if the product has “NFR” or “Not For Resale” written on it it cannot be updated or registered. NFR copies are solely intended for dealers to showcase our products. They cannot be sold or updated, because usually dealers are not charged for NFR versions either.

Generally, you should make sure the packaging is as complete as it was when it was originally sold. If you have all original packaging and a purchase receipt from the original owner you can update and register the product in some way. Contact us if in doubt prior to making the purchase.
