Prosoniq Announce OrangeVocoder 10th Anniversary AudioUnit Edition
Karlsruhe, March 12th, 2008 — Prosoniq today announce that they are introducing the 10th Anniversary AudioUnit Edition of their award winning OrangeVocoder plug in for the Mac at this year’s Musik Messe in Frankfurt. First released in 1998 as a VST plug in the OrangeVocoder has quickly gained a reputation as being the single most flexible and transparent sounding vocoder ever to be available as a plug-in. Its unique sound can be heard in countless movie productions and in many popular songs and is easily recognized. The sound of Prosoniq’s OrangeVocoder was originally designed after a famous hardware device and has been approved by one of the most popular German vocoder manufacturers at the time. Even 10 years later it is still one of Prosoniq’s top selling products and is getting rave reviews all over the world.
The 10th Anniversary AudioUnit Edition takes the vocoder one step further by making it AudioUnit compatible and adding a wealth of features that the original product didn’t have. The new version is AudioUnit compatible on both the PPC and Intel Macs, doubles its internal voices, incorporates full MIDI control, supports all project sample rates and processes in true stereo. But it doesn’t end there: in addition to the features of the previous versions OrangeVocoder 10AE also offers various sound modes each with a distinct basic vocoder sound, voiced/unvoiced detection linked with a noise synthesizer, a filterbank freeze option and a HF passthru mode.
The new 10th Anniversary AudioUnit Edition ships in May 2008 at a recommended retail price of 169 EUR, upgrades/crossgrades to 10AE from previous 2.x versions (including RTAS and VST versions) are available at 29 EUR. If you are attending the Musik Messe please make sure you visit Prosoniq in Hall 5.1 booth D98B to test drive the new version.
If you are looking for a plug in that makes your song stand out of the crowd check out the OrangeVocoder listening examples and the upcoming AudioUnit demo plug in at http://www.prosoniq.com

No VST3 at this time, sorry!

Will Cubase 4 now be able to control the midi keyboard part as I have read in the forums that the earlier plug in version did not.
Chris

Last time I checked Cubase didn’t support AudioUnit plug ins…
Btw. The problem with Cubase 4 and OrangeVocoder only affects the VST Windows version, it works fine on the Mac. See our forum for more details.

“Prosoniq Announce OrangeVocoder 10th Anniversary **AudioUnit** Edition”. This means it is an Apple AudioUnit plug-in product. As for the other (RTAS/VST) versions, the only information we have is in the FAQ category at http://www.prosoniq.com/faq/faq-osx-intel/

Hurrah! How can I pre-order and when will the plugin be available (it’s Apr 15 and I’m anxious to get the OV update!) Can’t wait to hear all the great new stuff that’s sure to be packed into the new plugin. My sonic life just isn’t the same without it… Sign me up!
By Elainie L on April 15, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Oops. I should have read more carefully. … April 20. Can’t wait. 5 days and counting until I can use my OV again. I think I’ll write an electroacoustic piece to celebrate!

I wonder if the new Orange Vocoder will work in ProTools LE 7.4 on mac intel bases imac with osx 10.4.9?
Will it work as a rtas plugin in Pro Tools 7.4 so I can insert it on audio/intrument/midi
tracks ?
By admin on April 17, 2008 at 11:30 am
Again, like the text says this is an AUDIO UNIT version. I works only in AUDIO UNIT compatible host applications, unfortunately ProTools does not support AudioUnits at this time.
By Custom DJ Drops on April 17, 2008 at 7:40 pm
OK so what programs do use this new plugin. Does Audition Support this?
By admin on April 17, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Last time I checked Audition was a Windows only program… not sure if they have a Mac version of it yet, but their web site seems to suggest that it’s still Windows only ( http://www.adobe.com/products/audition/systemreqs/ ).
Here’s an incomplete list of AudioUnit compatible host applications:
Full support:
Logic Studio — Logic Pro 8, MainStage, Soundtrack Pro 2.
Logic 7.2 or greater — Pro and Express
GarageBand
Plogue Bidule
Rax
Wave Editor
AU Lab
MacFOH v2.0
Sound Studio 3
RogueAmaeba AudioHijack Pro
TwistedWave
Prosoniq Plug-In MiniHost (free)
Partial support (no Cocoa User Interface)
MotU Digital Performer
Ableton Live
Naive Instruments Kore2

Ok. Thanks for anwer.
I got feedback from ProTools on this and they said they have no plans on
supporting AudioUnit at the current moment. They said I had to listen with
Prosoniq if you guys will make a “standalone” RTAS version of Orange Vocoder
for intelbased Imac’s with ProTools LE 7.4 ?
So, are there any plans for this ?
I would hope so, cause I would certanly buy this.
By admin on April 18, 2008 at 11:08 am
I know that they don’t want to support AU for marketing reasons, this has been the topic of a discussion in our forum at http://www.surroundsfx.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3005#p3005
Btw. your question regarding RTAS is covered in our FAQ database: http://www.prosoniq.com/faq/faq-ov10-rtas-vst/ This is all we know for now.
By Christian Dillner Hagen on April 18, 2008 at 11:41 am
Thanks for both quick and informativ reply. If only Digidesign could be this
quick.
I noticed that the : http://www.prosoniq.com/faq/faq-ov10-rtas-vst/ faq
was posted January 1 1995. Does what is written there still apply today 13 years later in 2008 ?
I guess you dont know any time frame requarding release of a rtas version
for ProTools ?
As I said befor this to bad for me. I desided to go fully software after buying
Mbox 2 Pro and ProTools LE for about 1,5 years ago. Looks like I have to go back
to buying hardware if I want something outside the mainstream software plugins
for RTAS.
By admin on April 18, 2008 at 11:51 am
All FAQ dates are set to 1995 in order to keep them away from the news articles, this is just for technical reasons - in 1995 there were no RTAS and AudioUnit plug ins. I don’t have any information on RTAS Intel products, like I said what’s in the FAQ is all we know for now. I would be surprised if Prosoniq wouldn’t support RTAS on Intel, though, so I guess it’s just a matter of time.
By Patrick P on April 20, 2008 at 4:03 am
Yes! I’ve been waiting for at least a year for the updated OV! I actually waited on getting the intel processor just because this plug-in wouldn’t run on it. I can’t wait to stat processing sounds through this little guy again, plus the new features. I can’t wait till tomorrow (hopefully it will be released on the 20th still!) to download and get crackin’ again.
By admin on April 20, 2008 at 7:54 am
The release has been moved to the 28th, we wanted to spend one more week on beta testing. We hope that our online store partners will have it available shortly after the 28th.
By Erik on April 28, 2008 at 3:19 pm
I’m Very interested in Your brand new product, since i own a Mac Book Pro Intel … Would You recommend me OrangeVocoder for using it in live performances and not only for studio recording ? B.T.W i use Ableton Live 7.0.3 …
THANK YOU in advance
By admin on April 28, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Yes, absolutely. We have a lot of users who do live performances with OrangeVocoder. The upcoming AudioUnit version has even more great features that are all realtime capable and (to some extent) MIDI controllable if your host application supports it.
Please note that Live doesn’t very well support the modern Cocoa AudioUnit plug in standard yet (this is the link to the relevant FAQ article: http://www.prosoniq.com/faq/faq-osx-cocoa-au/ ) but from what we have heard they are working on it as we speak.
We will have a demo available on our web site shortly so you can check it out for yourself on your own machine soon.

Hello.
Was not the Orange Vocoder Audio Unit supposed to be released the 28.04.2008 ?
It still says Prosoniq “Announce” OrangeVocoder 10th Anniversary Audio Unit Edition
here.
Any word on a RTAS version for Intel based Mac’s ?
By admin on May 2, 2008 at 10:39 am
The new OV AU is currently on its way to the stores, we expect to have it on sale next week. No word on RTAS and VST yet, a news announcement regarding the release of OV AU will be posted shortly.
By richie on May 5, 2008 at 6:14 pm
um.. RTAS for intel mac please so i can give you my money
thanks
ps - hurry
By admin on May 5, 2008 at 8:48 pm
No news on RTAS but AU is underway…
By jane on May 9, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Will there be some place to buy the crossgrade download in US dollars? And how many of those dollars?
Also any idea of the current release date — seems to be delayed (and I hope no one complains about getting delayed rather than buggy software).
By Richard on May 9, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Why isn’t there an RTAS version of Orange for Pro Tools 7.x / PC format?
First we lost Concorde from the skies, now we’ve lost Orange as well. What happened to common sense? This is a top Vocoder and should surely be available on all platforms.
By admin on May 9, 2008 at 3:31 pm
@Jane: you can get the crossgrade from our partner stores, just click the “buy” category. You can select your geographical region in order to display the amount in USD.
@Richard: we don’t have a Windows RTAS version of our vocoder but we do have a VST version. I believe FXpansion makes a wrapper that allows using VST plug ins from within ProTools.
The new Anniversary AudioUnit Edition is AudioUnit only. We don’t have any information on availability of that version for RTAS and VST (Windows or MacOS) at this time.
By Christian Dillner Hagen on May 10, 2008 at 7:22 am
Hello again.
Like myself I se there are many other people that is waiting for an RTAS version
of Orange Vocoder for ProTools LE. I hope you will pass these requests over to
Prosoniq.
By admin on May 10, 2008 at 8:46 am
Yes, absolutely, they are aware of everything that is going on on this web site and in our user forum.
By richie on May 10, 2008 at 7:01 pm
the RTAS vocoder will be the biggest selling item prosoniq makes and will ever make… i truly don’t understand why it’s not top priority… let’s review some companies that ignored consumers requests:
1 - quark xpress
2 - general motors
3 - record companies
4 - nbc
5 - is prosoniq next?
the mer fact that every computer user on the earth that has used your vocoder and think it’s the best out there should tell you that you accomplished a huge task and that a RTAS version should be available before any/all… mainly because pro tools is the industry standard at all major recording studios and every hobbyist desires to get tones like the pros so many of them buy pro tools LE systems.. i think it’s safe to say that at least 50% of all users are on pro tools and the other 50% is divided between logic, digital performer and pc apps…
im not upset but i want prosoniq to understand to cease the moment and that means capitalizing on what they already have.. which is a fan base of RTAS users that upgraded computers and can’t use their plug and want to give you money for your quality product… it would be a shame if someone else came out with a plug and took people away and i hate to see that happen, so if i was the boss at prosoniq every resource i had would be spent on making that RTAS plug, as it will create a revenue stream for the company
By admin on May 10, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Sorry, but all we know for now is that there is no official release date for an RTAS version of the new vocoder. This doesn’t necessarily mean that there will be none, just that there is no availability info yet. As soon as there is more information if and when a RTAS version will become available we will immediately announce it on our web site.
We generally don’t announce product releases that are more than 6 weeks away from hitting the stores. Given that Digidesign doesn’t officially support the Apple recommended Cocoa user interface technology in their RTAS interface yet there is probably no telling how much work this will entail by our developers, hence it might be impossible to tell if and when a product will be ready. This is what transpired from our latest meeting with the developers, so this is all we know at the support desk beyond of what’s in the FAQ.
And btw. our AudioUnits product line exists due to popular request by our customers, we at Prosoniq certainly pay close attention to our customers’ needs!
