Please note that all Prosoniq Windows product development has been discontinued in June 2009
Prosoniq has discontinued all of its Windows product development, sales and support on June 1st, 2009. Users who wish to crossgrade from the latest version of their Windows product to the Mac counterpart can do so for free by contacting Prosoniq via its contact form.
Since the first consumer products that were sold in 1994 Prosoniq has primarily focused development efforts on Irix and later MacOS / MacOS X software development. The majority of its products, including its flagship application sonicWORX were built on MacOS technologies that did not exist on Windows (such as interrupt drawing to provide accurate display rendering on the cooperatively scheduled MacOS 9).
It was only for a limited period of time when Steinberg expressed an interest in distributing cross-platform VST plug ins developed by Prosoniq that a limited set of products was ported to Windows. Prosoniq agreed on porting its VST product line to Windows in 1998 for the duration of their agreement. Prosoniq and Steinberg parted in 2001 but are still successfully working together as technology licensing partners today.
In 2008 Prosoniq decided to optimize its product line due to the expiration of exclusive contracts for some of their technologies and re-evaluate Windows software development in the process. The decision was made to focus on the development and optimization of its flagship products, invest resources into advancing its key technologies and discontinue all products and platforms that didn’t make a notable contribution to their financial success. As a result, Prosoniq, like other companies in the market, decided to discontinue some of its products (Rayverb and Magenta) and suspend all Windows software development in 2009 for the time being.
Contrary to its end user products all Prosoniq key technologies will continue to be available for licensing on both Windows and Mac platforms.
UPDATE: Karlsruhe, February 21st, 2011 — Prosoniq would like to inform its registered Windows customers that the Windows download links currently available from the Prosoniq updates page are set to expire on June 1st, 2011. After that date there will be no more product updates for the Windows platform available for download off of the Prosoniq web site (installed and downloaded products will continue to work indefinitely on the WinXP platform).
As you know, in June 2009 Prosoniq had discontinued all Windows product development and the distribution of its VST and standalone products that were available for WinXP as part as a distribution arrangement with Steinberg in the 1990s.
Starting June 2011 all Windows compatible products will be removed from the Prosoniq support system as they are now obsolete, and to make room for new products. If you are a registered Windows user you can still use our free crossgrade option to crossgrade to the equivalent Mac version of your product (if available) and you will still be able to download a copy of your product from the Prosoniq updates page via the link below until the download expires.
